Humans require the basic necessities: food, shelter, and clothing, etc. Similarly, our mind needs certain conditions to be happy. In fact, our spiritual state is even more dependent on the proper “environment” than our body. When the mind is clear and calm, whatever we eat tastes good and whatever we wear feels comfortable. Friends and relatives can feel the warmth radiating from our hearts. But if we are consumed by negative emotions, even close friends do not dare to talk—much less joke—with us. When we are emotionally upset, we hurt not only ourselves, but the people around us. At such times, we must work especially hard to transform our inner state.
