I took this photo on a journey from Qinghai to Yaqing. You see a mother and her son, and a mule and her foal. In the human and animal realms alike, a mother’s compassion and caring are like a summer day, full of warmth and happiness. From childhood to old age, from old age until death, a mother’s love shines on us with all the nurturing warmth of the sun. Every single sentient being has been our loving mother. Therefore our basic attitude toward others should be one of gratitude. We should always be looking for ways to benefit all beings. When we attain Buddhahood is not important. It is enough to benefit our mother and former mothers. This is our responsibility in this life.
