Bodhisattva’s Garland of Jewels (28 teachings)

Bodhisattvas are those whose sole aim in life is attaining enlightenment in order to best be able to benefit others. The Bodhisattva’s Garland of Jewels was composed by the great  11th-century Indian master, Atisha. The Bodhisattva’s Garland of Jewels are precious guidelines with respect mind training and also clearly specifies a practical method for the stages of cultivation of Bodhicitta on the path. The guidelines include cultivating the right and enthusiastic state of mind, preventing the mind from wandering, stabilising one’s practice, dealing others and other aspects of mind training.

Atisha is considered one of the great ‘forefathers’ who helped establish Buddhism in Tibet. His most revered teacher was Dharmakirti who studied with for 12 years in Sumatra and to whom he attributed as his most significant teacher in the practise of Bodhicitta. He was born in India (980 AD) and attained paranirvana in Lhasa (1054 AD).
